Who are we?

Scan Owner is a mobile app developed and published by SmallBatch. The app is available on Google Play and uses the ProduktInfo.dk web service as its backend.

What does the app do?

Scan Owner helps you find out who owns a product or brand. You can search via text, scan barcodes, or take photos of products.

What data do we collect?

• Search queries: Text, barcodes and images you submit to identify products. These are only used to answer your query.
• Device identifier: A randomly generated ID stored locally on your device. Used to manage daily search quotas. This ID is not linked to your identity.
• Technical log data: IP address and time of requests. Used for troubleshooting, security and abuse prevention.

What do we NOT collect?

• We do not collect your name, email or other personal contact information
• We do not collect location data
• We use Google AdMob to display ads (see the advertising section below). We do not use any other third-party tracking services
• We never sell your data

What do we use the data for?

• To answer your search queries and display product ownership
• To improve our product information database
• To protect the service against abuse

EU availability

Scan Owner is available to all users in the EU without restrictions based on nationality or place of residence, in compliance with the EU Geo-blocking Regulation (EU) 2018/302.

European infrastructure

All servers are located in Germany (EU). Your data never leaves the EU. We use European AI services for image recognition, which are also subject to GDPR.

Sharing of data

We do not share your personal data with third parties, except:

• AI services: Images and text are sent to European AI models for product identification. These are subject to GDPR.
• Legal requirements: If we are legally obliged to disclose data.

Advertising

The app is free. To keep it that way, we show ads via Google AdMob.

We do not store your advertising data. Ad serving is handled entirely by Google on their servers.

We evaluated European ad providers but found they predominantly served cryptocurrency and gambling advertisements. We chose Google AdMob for its content quality controls and GDPR compliance. If you know of a European alternative that meets these standards, we welcome your suggestion at support@produktinfo.dk.

• You can choose personalised or non-personalised ads
• Users in the EEA are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown (GDPR)
• Consent can be changed at any time in the app's settings

Local storage

The app stores locally on your device:

• Your device identifier (for search quotas)
• Cache of previous search results (for a faster experience)
• Your language preferences

Your rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access information about the data we hold about you
• Have your data corrected or deleted
• Withdraw your consent

Retention

Log data is retained for up to 90 days. Anonymised statistics may be retained longer.

Security

All communication between the app and server is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS.

Children's privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
